How To Change Engine Oil For Dodge Vehicles

Dodge vehicles should have their oil changed at least once every year. It is recommended that you follow your owner’s manual for the recommended oil change schedule.

Maintaining a clean, smooth engine requires regular oil changes. Regular oil changes are one of the easiest and most effective ways to prolong your vehicle’s lifespan. That said, it is important to change engine oil correctly using the right oil type, so here is a step-by-step procedure on how to change the engine oil for dodge vehicles. Follow them precisely.

Steps to Change Engine Oil For Dodge Vehicles Yourself

Step 1: Park safely

You won’t have to put the RAM on a ramp to get beneath it since it’s a huge pickup truck. Be sure the parking brake is engaged and the car is parked safely on a flat surface.

Step 2: Engine warm-up

Start the engine, and then turn it off after five minutes. Warming the engine helps the oil drain in a smooth way.

Step 3: Clean up old oil

On the passenger side of the engine oil pan, there is an oil drain plug. Remove the plug with your 13mm wrench and position the oil basin. Within two to three minutes, the oil will drain. The oil drain plug should be reinstalled after the oil is drained.

Step 4: Replace the oil filter

Since the oil filter is challenging to access, removing it can be tricky. Strap wrenches are useful for getting a better grip. You can ensure a snug fit by rubbing fresh motor oil on the gasket before reattaching the new filter.

Step 5: Refuel with new oil

Right at the top of the engine, remove the oil cap. Also, when pouring in new oil, use a funnel to prevent spills. Ensure the cap is securely sealed and run the engine for new few seconds to circulate the warm oil thoroughly. To make sure the engine has the right amount of oil, wait until it cools down, then check with the dipstick.

Step 6: Oil life should be reset

Your oil has been changed successfully (and you have saved a great amount of money). All you have to do is reset the oil life.

Start your engine without hitting the brakes and push the ON/RUN button. Navigate to the ‘vehicle info’ menu using the down arrow on the steering wheel.

Reset the tracker by choosing the oil life tab. You won’t need to worry about your engine oil for other significant miles except for checking it periodically.

Find the Right Service

Overdue oil changes or not changing your oil can cause serious problems with your engine. Gritty, black sludge forms when dirty oil isn’t changed quickly. However, you can avoid these consequences by following the above-mentioned procedure. If you find it challenging to do it by yourself, you can always schedule maintenance services and seek professional assistance at Empire Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram.
