About South Richmond Hill, Queens, New York
South Richmond Hill is primarily residential and contains many large single-family homes. It borders Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village to the south, Forest Park to the east and north, and Rego Park to the west. It also borders Forest Park on its eastern border and has four blocks of commercial properties on its western border with Rego Park.
The neighborhood was developed primarily between 1915 and 1930 by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., who designed a number of parks in the area along with other notable buildings such as the Planting Fields Park community center in 1924. Today, some of these parks remain open including Olmsted Parks (including Forest Park and Bayside Community Center), which are maintained by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
